Along with the Laughlin Solar Tower would be the Laughlin Solar Field. This form of energy from the sun is different in that it is simply solar cells absorbing light just like the ones on homes except the scale is measured in acres.
A Photovoltaic solar panel is nothing more than a large group of solar cells made of silicon. The cells are networked into a panel, each gathering a small amount of energy from sunlight.
A solar farm is an installation of multiple solar panels, generally on small towers covering an area of ground. Unlike the solar panels on roofs, these panels can be placed away from shade and moved so they are at the optimum angle to harvest solar rays throughout the day and the seasons.
As of 2006, several thousand acres have already been approved to be used as a solar field in Laughlin. ENN Solar and Nextera Energy have both expressed interest in building this solar field.
